Happy, Healthy, Resilient 2025!

25 brings introspection and inner wisdom, it is a mix of science and spirituality and recognizes accumulated wisdom.  It is sounding already like a great year to ease into true resilience practices that will bring lifelong benefits.  Who says new years has to be an all or nothing resolution anyways?

My wisdom tells me big changes are almost impossible to sustain.  Easing into micro practices over time equate to small habits that make big impacts on your overall resilience and success.  Figuring out your why is your first step.  Why do you want to be better, healthier, happier, more resilient?  Knowing your “why” increases sustainability and gives you drive when motivation is dwindling.  Know what is important to you to propel you to success.  Next, understand that there are some real physiological things going on in our bodies that make it hard for us as humans to change.  These are normal reactions that our bodies undergo when change is introduced to keep us comfortable…so no, you are not lazy or a failure—your body is just protecting you against change.  It is time to override those neuropathways and create new ones with repetition and more repetition to lead you to your success.

When I say micro practices, I mean baby steps.  It may mean shutting down screens 15 minutes before bed as opposed to the recommended hour.  It might be adding a glass of water to each meal you eat instead of cutting out all sugar.  It could be parking at the back of the parking lot instead of committing to that gym membership.  It could be remembering to take a few deep breaths in between tasks throughout the day rather than a daily hour meditation.  It could be giving a complement to someone every day, or being ready to hear the answer when you ask someone “how are you?”.  It could be saying “no” to that invite to just take time to rest.

Little practices you can add to your day will have longevity and transition to a habit.  As you master one small practice, it will be easier to add the next, and before you know it you will have a collection of healthy practices that are increasing your resilience as things become easier for you and you start to feel healthier and happier.

“Baby steps count, as long as you are going forward.  You add them all up,

and one day you look back and you’ll be surprised at

where you might get to.”
